Jack Bair

December 28th, 1929 – May 27th, 2015

Jack Bair, age 85, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 1:42 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Grand Prairie in Macomb, IL. He was born on December 28, 1929, the son of Carl and Mina (Leonard) Bair. Jack married Grace Conner on December 15, 1950 in Astoria, IL. She survives.

Also surviving is his son, Marty Bair of Astoria, IL, 2 granddaughters, Lindy (and Troy) Schenk of Astoria, IL and Libby Bair of Springfield, IL, sister, Betty (and Russell) Platt of West Peoria, IL and his brother, Donald (and Carolyn) Bair of Vermont, IL.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Connie Royer.

Jack first worked for the railroad in Astoria and International Harvester in Canton. He was owner and operator of the Bair and Butler 66 gas station in Astoria. He then worked with Willis France at the France Insurance Agency in Astoria. Jack then became owner and operator of the Bair Insurance Agency in Astoria. He also Farmed.

He was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as church treasurer for many years. He was a 25 year member of the Astoria Fire Department. He was a Shriner and a Shriner Circus Daddy for the last 10 years. He was a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge. He was Vice President of the Lewistown Mutual Insurance Company for many years. He was also a member of the Astoria Lions Club, where he was a past president.

Services will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 2 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospice.

Condolences to the entire Bair family and all of his friends. I knew him when he and his wife Grace would come up to Klide's Fast Stop for Coffee and conversation He will be greatly missed by everyone. We hope to see Mr Bair again in Heaven 1 day.

So sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. He was very special to us. He and Grace were our first two visitors when we arrived in Astoria. We loved them both dearly and such a great blessing to the Astoria U.M.C. So thankful to get to visit him last November. Sorry we can not attend service Sunday. Our thoughts, hugs, love & prayers.
