Richard J. Oest

January 9th, 1949 – May 24th, 2015

Richard "Rick" Oest, age 66, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 12:09 am Sunday, May 24th at Culbertson Memorial Hospital ER in Rushville, IL. Richard was born on January 9, 1949 in Canton, IL, the son of Edward and Dortha (Slaight) Oest.

He is survived by his two daughters, Rochelle (and Chad) Sappington of Canton, IL and Jill (and Kyle) Easley of Astoria, IL, 2 grandchildren, Zachary Sappington and Karli Easley, his brother, Edwin (and Nancy) Oest of Havana, IL, his sister, Linda Oest of Astoria, IL and 3 nephews, Jason, Jimmy and Jon Oest.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Richard worked at Fiat-Allis Proving Grounds in Astoria and then he farmed. He enjoyed traveling and a good conversation.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Astoria, IL. Pastor Josh Clevenger will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 am on Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Rescue Squad or the Havana VFW.

Rick frequented Hardees in Havana on a regular basis and made many coffee drinking friends. All of those friends wish to extend their condolences to the family. He will be greatly missed by all! I have a lot of great memories of Rick from the 2 summers I spent working at Anderson Lake. We always talked about food and how we both loved fried chicken and he knew how much I loved koolaid. On my last day there he showed up at lunch and brought me fried chicken and koolaid! I will never forget that :) I am so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I am sorry to hear of Rick"s sudden passing.Rick and I worked 2nd shift togather at Allis Chalmers proving ground in the 80's, for many years. Rick was a good friend, we had lunch together and a lot of good visits. we will miss him. Gale Beekman & Family
