Clara E. Bingamon

May 19th, 1937 – April 2nd, 2015

Clara E. Bingamon, age 77 of Norwood, IL, passed away at 2:45 pm Thursday, April 2, 2015 at her home. She was born on May 19, 1937 in Peoria, the daughter of Benjamin and Ella (Knickerbocker) Grapevine. On February 13, 1959, Clara married Glenwood "Dunk" Bingamon in Peoria. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1998.

She was also preceded in death by grandson Steven Brown, daughter-in-law Cynthia Bingamon, son-in-law Ronald Patterson, 4 brothers, Donald, James, Everett, and Raymond Grapevine, and 2 sisters, Vivian Kirby and Charlotte Smith.

Clara is survived by 3 daughters, Deana (and Carl) Hartig of Peoria, Debbie (and Johnny Gill) Patterson of Norwood, and Cindy Bingamon of Florissant, MO, 2 sons, Glenn Bingamon of Chillicothe and Benjamin Bingamon of Norwood, 12 grandchildren, including Dawn Scott and Jodi Clougherty, whom she raised, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and 2 sisters, Mary Waldorf of Middleburg, FL and Kathryn Newton of Hillsboro, MO.

Clara was a bus driver, driving for Peoria PARC and the Paige Bus Company of Bartonville. She last worked as a cook at Belwood Nursing Home for 15 years, retiring in 1995.

She loved playing cards, especially pinochle and euchre. She also enjoyed playing shuffleboard, fishing, and spending time with her family. She loved her Kindle.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the Hospice Compassus staff for their wonderful care of Clara.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Bluff City Cemetery in Bluff City, IL. Pastor Dwight Winnett will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon to 12:45 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hickory-Kerton Fire Department. A Celebration of Clara's life will be held at 4:30 pm on Monday, April 6th at the Peoria Eagle's Club, 1704 S. East Street, Peoria, IL.
