Ray E. Shannon

November 7th, 1949 – December 31st, 2014

Ray E. Shannon, age 65, of Marietta, IL, passed away at 1:46 am on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He was born on November 7, 1949 in Canton, a son of Ora Arthur and Betty Alice (White) Shannon. He married Vicki Derry on July 15, 2000 in Marietta. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Shane (and Mandy) Shannon of Bushnell, IL and Chad Shannon of Avon, IL, two daughters, Shanlyn (and Tim Faught) Brown of Bushnell, IL and Tiffany (and Erik) Babcock of Roseville, IL, four step-sons, Jeremy (and Jennie) Fawcett of Banner, IL, Billy (and Maren) Fawcett, Jr. of Burlington, IA, Anthony "Tony" Interial and Phillip Interial of Galva, and one step-daughter Stephany (and Jason) Pugliano of Kewanee, IL, 26 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and two brothers, Ron "Tink" Shannon of Marietta, and Don "Duke" (and Kathy) Shannon of Swan Creek, IL, and his faithful companion Molly Boo Boo.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Shannon.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1969 to 1971 with a rank of E-4. He was at Fire Base Ripcord and received the Bronze Star with V for Valor.

Ray worked as a laborer for several manufacturing companies in the area.

He loved to fish and hunt, especially ducks. He loved spending time with his family.

Ray was a member of the Bushnell VFW and the Ipava American Legion Post #17.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 10 am until 12 Noon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava, IL. Military rites will be held at 12 Noon at the funeral home provided by the Ipava American Legion Post #17. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation with burial of ashes held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Walter Payton Liver Center at the University Of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
