Francis K. Johnson

November 8th, 1916 – October 15th, 2014

Frances K. Johnson, age 97, of North Manchester, IN, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester. Frances was born on November 8, 1916 in Brantford, North Dakota, the daughter of William and Maude (Miller) Deardorff. She married Ralph Johnson on October 18, 1936. Ralph preceded Francis in death on October 27, 1998.

Survivors include her four sons, Vernon (and Mary Jane) Johnson of East Peoria, IL, Alvin (and Marjorie J.) Johnson of Los Angles, CA, Stephen (and Tammie Bowers) Johnson of North Manchester, IN and Stan Johnson of Yucaipa, CA, her daughter Alice (and Lyle) Hildebrand of Sebring, FL, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and her sister Della Davis of North Manchester, IN.

Also preceding Francis in death is her son, Lynn Dale Johnson and three brothers.

Francis was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren in North Manchester, IN. Frances graduated from Cherry Grove High School. She was involved with many musical activities throughout her life. She had several musical pieces published and also sang in and directed many church choirs and Timbercrest Choir. She collaborated with her sister, Della Davis, on several musical pieces. She also taught school for a short time in Astoria.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2 pm at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. A visitation will be held at 1:30 pm at the funeral home on Sunday before the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria, IL. Memorials may be made to the Ralph W. & Frances K. Johnson Peace Studies Endowment at Manchester University, 604 E.
