Elbert McMullen, 95, of Bushnell, IL, formerly of Table Grove, IL, passed away at 3:56 am Monday, June 4, 2018 at Courtyard Estates in Bushnell, IL. He was born on February 10, 1923 in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, IL, the son of Elbert and Sarah (Emig) McMullen. Elbert married Theresa Hatton on April 24, 1952 in Havana, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his 4 daughters, Christine (and David) Wiseman of Fenton, MO, Marilyn (and Jim) Hyde of Hardin, MT, Sandy (and Ray) Harrison of Troy, MO, and Barbara Adcock of Table Grove, IL, 2 sons, Kevin McMullen of Galesburg, IL and Keith (and Myra) McMullen of O'Fallon, IL, 12 grandchildren, Francine (and August) Appleton, Andy Cleer, Jimmy Reece, Jon Hyde, Josh Hyde, Trent Sutter, Dawn Sutter, Nicole (and Wes) Seward, Natalie (and Bob) Divan, Shelby Adcock, DVM, Sarah Adcock, and Christopher (and Lisa) Barber, 12 great-grandchildren.

Elbert was a US Army veteran, serving from 1948 to 1954 with a rank of Corporal.

He was self-employed as a land improvement contractor for many years in and around Fulton County. Locals still enjoy fishing in the ponds he built.

Elbert was a past president of Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Association and a member of the National LICA. He believed one should be active and participate in your community. He was a volunteer fire fighter for many years for the Table Grove Fire Dept. and maintained their firehouse furnace. He served on the Table Grove Town Board and assisted the road commissioner in keeping the village roads clear of snow and prepping the roads for tar and gravel re-surfacing. Elbert also built the Table Grove Sewage Treatment area west of town. He was a member of the Table Grove American Legion.

In his “spare” time, Mac loved to fish and to help his kids with whatever remodeling project they had going or having a bite out with his “baby doll”.

Services will be held Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb, IL. The Rosary will begin at 10 Am with the funeral mass to follow at 10:30 am. Father Adam Stimpson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria, IL. One of the really good men of our area, Elbert will be sadly missed by many. My dad, Lyle Douglas, held Elbert in high esteem and later I got to know him and understood why. Our prayers are for his wife and children, who already know that heaven is a little nicer place now that he is there.

Just 3 weeks ago on Mother's Day we were blessed to spend the day with Mom and Dad. Yesterday, we said good-bye to a man who loved his wife, supported his family, clothed and fed and provided for his 6 children, loved his grand and great-grandchildren, took pride in his work, worked hard, attended us kids' sporting events as much as possible, loved and respected his country, volunteered with pride to assist with community events in Table Grove, supported and was heavily involved in the LICA (Land Improvement Contractor's Association) and the list goes on and on as will his legacy. My Dad was a very quiet, gentle man. He had stories if you simply took the time to sit and listen. He was a very compassionate man. He was honest, fair and VERY humble. My Dad never bragged about himself or his work, ever! I'm blessed that I have my Dad's big heart, compassion and empathy. One thing I know I was taught was to be appreciative of what you have, work hard and be good at it and take compliments in stride. I learned these great traits from an awesome Dad. If heaven has any construction/earth moving projects, I know Dad will be riding his D-9 bulldozer with a huge smile on his face. One day, Dad, we'll all be together again. I'm going to miss you, Dad, but I know you're in a better place now. Love ya', Dad! Keith McMullen

Dave and Chris, and Theresa and family: I have been keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I know these last few days have been very difficult, so as each of you move onward, may the memories of your dad, husband, and friend bring a smile to your heart. May God pour his love down upon each of you at this time.
With much sympathy, Barbara

Theresa, We were at the LICA Convention in Charleston this year after missing for a long time. We were asking about both of you then. Stan Seevers just now got in touch by sending this connect regarding Mac's passing. We enjoyed you both so much and want to keep in touch. Our last Christmas card came back with no forwarding address. Ours is still the same. We are so blessed to have spent some time with Mac and you. God comfort and bless you. Gordon and Barbara Hilton
