Victor H. Danner

October 16th, 1931 – January 19th, 2017

Victor H. Danner, age 85 of Decatur, IL, passed away at 10:00 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home. He was born on October 16, 1931 in Woodland Twp., Fulton Co., IL, the son of Hart F. and Iona F. (Hetrick) Danner. He married Dorothy E. France on March 7, 1954 in Astoria, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are one son Scott (and Lori) Danner of Decatur, three grandchildren; Nicole (and Sean) Ekiss of Mt. Zion, IL, Jason (and fiancé Jacque Welton) Danner of Decatur, and Jessica (and Jeremy Smith) Danner of Mt. Zion, two great-grandchildren, Aiden Ekiss and Ashlynn Danner, and two sisters, Evelyn Danner and Helen E. Wise, both of Astoria.

Victor was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter Aubrey Page Danner, one sister Charlotte Danner, and his parents.

He was a 1949 graduate of Astoria High School and the College of Advanced Traffic in Chicago in 1956.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954 in Tokyo, Japan.

Vic and Dorothy owned and operated Danner Electric Shop in Astoria from 1961 to 1967, before moving to Littleton, CO. He was a Union Electrician and a 45 year member of IBEW Local 68 in Denver, CO.

He is a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW Post 99 in Decatur, a member of the Decatur American Legion Post 105, a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge Number 116 in Vermont, IL, Scottish Rite Bodies (Consistory) in Springfield, IL, ANSAR Shrine Temple in Springfield, and a life member (Order of El Coyote) El Jebel Temple in Denver, CO.

Victor was also a member of AARP, the IBEW Local 193 Retirees Club in Springfield, the South Side Gun Club (Range Officer) of Littleton, CO and a former member of the NRA.

He was an instructor for the Colorado Hunter Safety courses and worked with Habitat for Humanity in Springfield. He served 10 years as Cadre, TO,XO and commanding officer of US Naval Sea Cadet Corps in Denver, CO.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 24th from 2-3 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Graveside military honors will be at 3:30 pm at the Astoria Cemetery provided by the Astoria American Legion Post 25. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Society of Illinois.
