Robert W. "Artie" Shaw

September 2nd, 1927 – November 19th, 2016

Robert William "Artie" Shaw, age 89 of Lindale, TX, formerly of Astoria, IL and Davenport, IA, passed away at 5:10 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at his home in Lindale. He was born on September 2, 1927 in Astoria, the son of Willis and Marilyn (Hulvey) Shaw. He married Bonnie June Thompson on September 2, 1947 in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Rosemary (and Keith) Anderson of Emory, TX, 4 grandchildren; Forrest William Jones of Davenport, Michael William Shaw of Taft, CA, Jennifer Michelle (and Justine) Brewer of Davenport, and Bonnie Marie (and Tony) Neeld of New Boston, IL, 8 great-grandchildren; Christopher, Michael Allen, and Larissa Neeld, Zachary and Amber Rose Brewer, Michael Warren Shaw, Summer Lee and Tyler Dobson Jones, 2 step-grandchildren, and his sister Shirley (and Duane) Richards of Browning, IL.

Artie was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Gregory Shaw, one step-grandchild, one brother Gerald Shaw and one sister Betty Thompson.

He was an Army Air Force veteran, serving from 1946 to 1947 in the 20th Air Force3rd Photo Division in Guam.

He worked for Lock's Motor Sales in Astoria, IL following his high school graduation. He then was a mechanic, working for the Operating Engineers Local #573 and #150 in Davenport. He worked for McCarthy Improvement Company in Davenport, Quad City Kenworth in Rock Island, Twin Bridges MAC in Bettendorf, Peter Kewitt Company and for Contractors all over the world. He last worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers from 1987 until his retirement in 2002.

Artie was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #573 and #150 in Davenport. He also was a member of the Blue Lodge Masonic Lodge in Ottawa, KS, the Masonic Lodge in Lawrence, KS and Davenport, IA, York Rite Degree in Ottawa, the Scottish Rite in Davenport, Mohasson Grotto in Davenport, Kaabe Shriners in Davenport, the Davenport Order of the Eastern Star #178, the Davenport American Legion Post #26, and the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Springhill, LA.

He worked with Boy Scout Troop #9 in Davenport for many years. He loved gardening, flowers, and doing mechanical work. He delighted in seeing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ken Peterson will officiate. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 25th from 5-7 pm with Masonic Services scheduled at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Summum Cemetery in Summum, IL with full military rites. Memorials may be given to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital and Burn Center.

We are glad we got to spend some time with you in the past. remember the days you taught me to bounce a quarter on the tight bed sheets ( duty you had to do in the service).
