Max Shutter

February 10th, 1945 – May 24th, 2016

Max Shutter, age 71 of Ipava, IL, passed away at 8:00 am Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at his home. He was born on February 10, 1945 in Macomb, IL, the son of Leland and Esther (Hammond) Shutter. On September 3, 1983, Max married Carolyn Switzer in Lewistown, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Scott Alan (and Lisa) Fawcett of Princeton, IL, and Steven Lee Shutter of Ipava, his daughter Michelle Ann Fawcett of Ipava, and three grandchildren, Dylan Scott Fawcett, Kayla Jo Fawcett, and Tyler Douglas Shutter.

Max was preceded in death by his parents.

He was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era.

Max was a heavy equipment operator, working for Local 649 of Peoria, IL. He was also a lifelong farmer. He raised cattle and loved running the backhoe and dozer on the farm.

He loved the community of Ipava and was very community minded. Whenever there was a need, Max was there to help when possible.

He loved and supported his family very much.

He was a member of the Ipava United Presbyterian Church, the Ipava Masonic Lodge #213 where he was a Past Master for 10 years, a member of the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star #226 where he was Past Patron, a member of the Scottish Rite of Peoria, the Illinois Valley Shriners, the Ipava American Legion Post #17, and a 46 year member of the Local 649 Operating Engineers of Peoria, IL.

Services will be held on Friday, May 27th at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will officiate. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery with military rites provided by the Ipava American Legion Post #17. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26th from 5-8 pm with Masonic Services at 8:00 pm provided by the Ipava Masonic Lodge #213. Memorials may be given to the Ipava Masonic Lodge #213.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I'll never forget him and every time I was walking he would always stop to say hi. He would always ask me "who's walking who? Lol". He was a great guy and will be missed for sure. I'll be thinking of all of you during these hard times.
