Mary E. Woods

September 12th, 1923 – March 25th, 2016

Mary E. Woods, 92, of Macomb, formerly of Ipava passed away at 4:50 am on Friday, March 25, 2016 at The Elms in Macomb. She was born on September 12, 1923 in Blyton, the daughter of Ora and Edith (Simpson) Barrick. She married Robert Woods on May 7, 1949 in Ellisville, IL. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2001.

Also preceding her in death are her 2 sons, Joe Allen and James Woods, 3 brothers, Lewis, John and Harold Barrick and 1 sister, Helen Stroud.

Survivors include her son, John (and Norma) Woods of Ipava, 3 daughters, Rosey (and Bob) Middendorf of Leroy, Jane (and John) Derry of Brea, CA and Rita (and Glenn) Wilcoxen of Vermont, 10 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and her sister, Mae Hoskins of Georgetown, KY.

Mary was a graduate of Ellisville High School. After graduation she worked at the Bushnell Hammer Factory for a short time. She then attended Olivet Nazarene College and Graham School of Nursing before her marriage. She worked at Mason District Hospital in Havana, IL, Velma’s Grocery in Ipava and as a home health care worker for many years.

She was a member of the Fulton County Home Extension and the Ipava Christian Church, where she served the Lord through playing the piano, singing and teaching Sunday school. She was best known for baking wedding, birthday and graduation cakes.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Brant Reed and Gordon Barrick will be officiating. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Wiley Cemetery in Ellisville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Elms in Macomb, IL, McDonough District Hospice or the Ipava Christian Church
