Rosa Lee Stambaugh

March 28th, 1924 – February 2nd, 2016

Rosa Lee Stambaugh, 91, of Beardstown, passed away at 5:15 pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She was born on March 28, 1924 in Bader, the daughter of John and Margaret Louise (Douglas) McCombs. Rosa Lee married Noal Smith on July 6, 1941 in Palmyra, MO. Noal preceded her in death. She later married Junior Bill Stambaugh on August 8, 1999 in Browning, IL. Junior Bill also preceded her in death.

Rosa Lee is also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Robert, Harry, Stuart, Jack and Charles McCombs and daughter-in-law, Judy Smith.

She is survived by her son, Mike Smith of Atwood, 4 grandchildren, Diane (and Bill) Shultz, Timothy (and Allie) Smith, Amanda (and Ted) Romine and Tammy Flynn, 12 Great-Grandchildren, 13 Great-Great-Grandchildren, her sister, Doris Thomas of Astoria and several nieces and nephews

Rosa Lee was the Browning Village Clerk for 24 years, an assistant to Chiropractor Gordon Stevens in Beardstown, correspondent for the Astoria South Fulton Argus and the Rushville Times and was a volunteer at the Browning Senior Citizens Center.

She became a member of the Bader Christian Church at age 12. She later transferred her membership to the Browning Christian Church. After marrying Junior Bill, she became a member of the Astoria Assembly of God. She was a past President and member of the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a Browning Township Trustee. Rosa Lee loved to crochet

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Matt Haberman will be officiating. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Bader Cemetery in Bader. Memorials may be made to the Bader Christian Church.

Sorry to be late in submitting this. I knew Rosie and Noel from Bader in days past. Worked once with Noel detasseling corn for Mummert seed co., after he got out of the service.One time he took me out on the Il. river with him. Rosie always remembered me through the years. They were both good hearted folks and I'm sure we will see them again. Gene Edwards
