Wayne Batterton

July 24th, 1936 – January 3rd, 2016

Wayne L. Batterton, age 79 of Astoria, IL, passed away at 2:12 am on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on July 24, 1936 in Bernadotte, IL, the son of Cecil and Evelyn (Watson) Batterton. He married Roberta J. Horwedel on July 16, 1955 in Ipava, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his son Randy (and Mary) Batterton of Mt. Carmel, IL, his daughter Cindy (and Logan) McClain of Table Grove, IL, five grandchildren; Gina (and Ryan) Gregory, Chris Batterton, April (and Wes) Stoneking, Derek Batterton, and Daniel Spencer, eleven great-grandchildren; Destiny Gregory, Drake Stoneking, Hallie Batterton, Faith Gregory, Hannah Spencer, Jade McClain, Daryssa Stoneking, Hanna Batterton, Kyleigh Batterton, Jacelee Batterton, and Jaxson Batterton, one sister Mary Lou Isbell, and three brothers, Jerry (and Joyce) Batterton of Canton, IL, Bob (and Joyce) Batterton of Farmington, IL, and Kenny (and Judy) Batterton of Harlingen, TX.

Wayne worked at Skiles Fertilizer in Astoria for 10 years. He then worked for International Harvester in Canton, IL and Navistar in Urbana, OH for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.

He was an active member of the Isaac Walton League, serving as President for 6 years. He was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club, the Eagle's Club in Mt. Carmel, IL, and the Sons of the American Legion at the Ipava American Legion.

Wayne enjoyed camping, woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.

So sorry for your loss. I don't know if your Wayne is the same one I knew as a child. Wayne was our paper boy. He was about ten yrs older than me. Just remember him as a handsome and athletic young man about 16 or so.
