Donald Ames

January 3rd, 1930 – September 16th, 2015

Donald R. Ames, age 85 of Table Grove, IL, passed away at 11:25 pm Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on January 3, 1930 in Table Grove, a son of Jesse and Laila (DeFord) Ames. Donald married Patricia Waters on August 23, 1951 in Ipava, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his son, Gary (and Sherry Davenport) Ames of Table Grove, four grandchildren; Jesse Ames, Stephanie (and Jerry) Friday, Mackie (and Bonnie) Davenport, and Kenny (and Amber) Davenport, 6 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Bernita Arnett of Table Grove.

Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Wendell Ames.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953.

He was a farmer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Donald was a former member of the Table Grove American Legion.

Services will be held on Monday, September 21st at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Harris Cemetery in Table Grove with full military rites. Memorials may be made to the Table Grove Fire and Rescue Squad.

Don was a good man who worked hard ,loved farming and his family ! I always enjoyed talking with him when Gary and I would hang out at the machine shed or the back porch laughing and telling stories with Sooner dog by his side.I will always miss the deep chuckle he had at the end of a funny story .Our prayers are with you in your time of loss ! God bless your family till we all meet again !
